will having a gmrs license enable me to talk to people farther away on my 2-way radio?

i just got some 2-way radios and i can only get about a mile and a half range out of them. if i get the gmrs license will i be able to use the radio to at least it’s near range capability? what will the license do for me exactly?

    A license in itself won’t do anything to get you better range. But with a license you will be able to legally use a radio that has more power and therefore greater range. You will still have to buy radios that are capable of the higher power output.
